The Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (CICC) is a platform to discover and promote emerging contemporary choreographers. Since its founding in 2008, the CICC has been an annual event attracting talent from around the world, as well as becoming one of the most recognized choreography competitions in Europe. Exposure from CICC showcases has launched the careers of many talented artists, and facilitates choreographic opportunities with international renowned dance companies and festivals.

When: July 9-10, 2021

Deadline for applications: May 1, 2021

Schedule

Wednesday, July 7th: Participant’s arrival in Copenhagen.

Thursday, July 8th: Stage rehearsals for first half of the finalists.

Friday, July 9th: Stage rehearsals for second half of the finalists and Choreography Competition 2021.

Saturday, July 10th: Gala Performance

Sunday, July 11th: Departure

The Choreography Competition will be held before a live audience, including a jury comprised of invited members of the dance world. Awards will be announced at the Gala performance on Saturday, July 10th, 2021. Those involved in the event should be available for both performing days.

Accommodation

CICC will provide accommodation for all participating dancers and choreographers from Wednesday, July 7th to Sunday, July 11th, 2021.

PLEASE NOTE: CICC does not cover travel expenses.

Technical Arrangements

All participants will be allowed 1 hour on stage for lighting arrangements and rehearsal. Please be advised that technical capabilities will be limited.

Required props or sets are the responsibility of the contestant.

CICC will provide sound and technical assistance, as well as a lighting designer.

Conditions of Entry

1. The organizers must receive applications no later than May 1st, 2021.

2. All participants, including dancers and choreographers, are required to have professional experience.

3. Choreographers must be under 40 years of age.

4. The competition is open to solos, duets, trios, and group pieces up to five performers. 

5. Choreographer’s may perform in their own work. 

6. The work can be created by multiple choreographers. (All the choreographer’s information should be mentioned on the online application)

7. Subject and music of all pieces is open to the choreographer. Please note that the competition is focused on contemporary works.

8. The work should be between 5 and 15 minutes long. 

9. A link to a complete online recording of the piece you wish to present at the Choreography Competition 2021 should be included along the online application. (Trailer video will not be considered)

10. Submitted works must have been choreographed after July 10th, 2018.

11. If you are applying with a new creation, a link to a complete rehearsal recording of the piece you wish to present at the Choreography Competition 2021 should be included along the online application. (Work in process and studio recording are acceptable)

12. Those involved in the event should be available for both performing days and necessary rehearsals free of charge. This includes any possible radio/TV interviews, press conferences, and TV/Internet broadcasting.
